Mr. Austin aka Coach aka Boss

Coach Austin  aka "BOSS"

Columbus “Joe” Austin, born in 1926 departed this life in 2003. We all knew him as “BOSS”. Mr. Austin was well known and respected in our community. He was a wonderful person and a great mentor to many and someone we all loved dearly.

Mr. Austin inspired many people. He was a great inspiration to youth of Tidewater Park and surrounding communities. Those who did not have a role model or the many who did not have a father figure in their lives, he was just that to them.

The "Boss" was known for the slap on the back of the head and the hand grip. If you were slacking, he would push you to do better and to do your best. He was a great football coach and mentor. Some of the men he coached are now coaches themselves and using the same plays they were taught by Mr. Austin. Because of Mr. Austin many of our TWP loved ones grew up to become great parents, mentors and successors.
